COLLEGE EXHIBITION TO SHOWCASE WORK OF LOCAL ARTIST |

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College presents an art exhibition featuring the work of George Cooley, a visual artist and private art instructor from Oil City, Pa., Thursday, Oct. 27 to Friday, Nov. 11, in the Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery on campus. The exhibition will run from noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
An artist lecture and workshop with Cooley will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 45 of the Pew Fine Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 28, followed by an artist reception at 6 p.m. The art exhibition, artist lecture and workshop and artist reception are free and open to the public.
Cooley, who has an extensive background with design firms and art material manufacturers, creates fine art such as paintings, sculptures and drawings. He currently works out of a studio at the National Transit building in Oil City as part of the Arts Revitalization program, for which he is a board member.
“I consider my work to be ‘Trans Avant-garde,’ and recently I’ve been incorporating more portrait and landscape issues into my mix,” said Cooley. “My work habitually references mapped out points commemorating (personally significant) events. Especially with my paintings, each separate work is a grid coordinate on my lifetime cartography project.”
