spacer COLLEGE CELEBRATES HEROES AT 236TH MARINE CORPS BALL
spacer
October 27, 2011

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College will honor America’s heroes at the 236th United States Marine Corps (USMC) Ball on Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Colonnade of the Carnegie Alumni Center on campus. A celebratory meal for attendees will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the program at 11:30 a.m. The ball will feature Pennsylvania businessman and politician Jim Roddey as honorary speaker. The event is free and open to the public.

Roddey formerly served as a United States Marine and the first chief executive of Allegheny County, Pa., from 2000 to 2004. He has served on the boards of several companies and organizations, including Rollins Communication Corp. and Turner Communication Corp.

An Emeritus Trustee of the University of Pittsburgh, Roddey has received three honorary doctorates and been appointed to distinguished positions, such the chairman of the Port Authority of Allegheny County and Allegheny County Sanitary Authority, as well as the Pittsburgh Water Authority.

In 2010, “Politics Magazine” named Roddey one of the most influential Republicans in Pennsylvania.

The ball will include celebrated USMC traditions such as a cake ceremony, birthday keepsakes, excellent food dishes and patriotic decorations.

To register for tickets, e-mail Marines@gcc.edu. For more information about the Marine Corps Ball, contact Matt Jensen ’00, guest lecturer in business. A voluntary donation of $15 will be collected for the “Toys for Tots” and “Wounded Warrior Project” charities upon arrival.
