GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College Department of Biology will host an Alternative Energy Symposium at 7 p.m. March 18 in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus. The symposium is part of the Environmental Education Seminar Series and seeks to alert the campus community of the need to look for alternative sources of energy in order to lessen dependence on fossil fuels.
Invited speakers and their topics include:
- Bruce Norman, manager for General Electric Corporation, on General Electric’s development of wind and solar energy
- John Hall, president of IQ Energy, on turning waste material into energy as an alternative to fossil fuels
- Joseph Blake, plant manager for Pennsylvania Biodiesel, Inc., on the future development of biodiesel as an alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuels
- William Wasser, Goddard State Park manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, on biofuels as home heating methods and ethanol production
- Lee McCracken, president of Premier Power Solutions, on long term costs and supplies of energy
Grove City College Professor of Biology Dr. Fred Brenner and the former secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources John Oliver will host the symposium. Oliver served as the secretary of the DCNR for seven years under former governor Tom Ridge. Brenner joined the College faculty in 1969.
The symposium, co-sponsored by the biology and political science honoraries, the student electrical engineering association and the Environmental Club, is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
