spacer
October 13, 2011

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The 2011-12 Grove City College Showcase Series features four productions. Two shows will be held at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh with bus transportation available to and from Grove City. The other two performances will be in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

The series begins with a journey to Neverland in Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s “Peter Pan,” at the Benedum Center on Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. The performance follows the storyline of the mischievous Peter Pan and his sidekick Tinker Bell on a fantastic adventure featuring the Darling children, the Lost Boys, the dastardly Captain Hook and his arch nemesis the Crocodile.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience an insider’s look at how the ballet’s whimsical costumes are created through a pre-show presentation. Tickets for the performance are $14 for Grove City College students (limit one per student), $33 for general admission and $69 for general admission with priority seating. General admission bus transportation is available for $10 and free for Grove City College students.

B.E. Taylor will return to Grove City College for a Christmas Concert Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Taylor is a nationally recognized artist who has performed to sold-out crowds across western Pennsylvania and the Midwest, including a sparkling holiday performance at the College in 2010. The Aliquippa, Pa., native is known for his powerful voice and has been influenced by Motown and The Beatles. Tickets are $10 for Grove City College students (limit one per student), $15 for College employees (limit two per employee) and $20 for general admission.

Award-winning actor, director and playwright Frank Ferrante will portray legendary comedian Groucho Marx in the fast-paced comedy, “An Evening with Groucho,” Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. on campus. The performance, filled with laughter and show business history, consists of Groucho one-liners, anecdotes and songs. The audience even becomes part of the show as Ferrante ad-libs in Groucho style. Tickets are $5 for Grove City College students and employees and $10 for general admission.

Giacomo Puccini’s melodrama, “Tosca,” subtitled “Love and Sacrifice,” is the potent tale of an opera diva who defies the most powerful and corrupt man in Rome in both life and death. The performance on March 24, at 8 p.m. at the Benedum Center resonates with audiences and remains one of Puccini’s most popular works. Angela Brown will make her much-anticipated debut with the Pittsburgh Opera as Tosca; Hugo Vera also debuts as Cavarodossi.

Attendees will also be offered a special “Pre-Opera Talk” one hour before the performance to learn about the composer, the story and details about the opera. Tickets are $19 for Grove City College students (limit one per student), $29 for general admission and $69 for general admission with priority seating. General admission bus transportation is available for $10 and free for Grove City College students.

Tickets purchased by students and staff are distributed at the Alumni Relations Office, Carnegie Alumni Center. General admission tickets will be mailed unless otherwise specified.
