GROVE CITY, Pa. – On Aug. 23, Grove City College welcomed the Class of 2011. This year, 341 men and 313 women from 36 states make up the freshman class. Other facts and figures include:
- Average GPA: 3.72
- Average SAT: 1269
- Average ACT: 28
- 62 valedictorians and 27 salutatorians
- 20 National Merit Scholarship Finalists
- 52 percent in the top 10 percent of high school class
- 78 percent in the top 20 percent of high school class
- 3 percent served as student body presidents
- 2 percent served as senior class presidents
- 20 percent played varsity athletics
- 23 percent were involved in student council
- 47 percent were active in missions
- 94 percent some sort of community service in high school
- 20 percent were involved in marching band
Among male students, the most popular declared major is liberal arts, followed closely by engineering. The most popular major for female students is also liberal arts, followed by the sciences. Many of these students will also eventually earn teaching degrees in their courses of study.
Overall, the Grove City College student population of about 2,500 students represents 42 states, plus the District of Columbia, and 12 foreign countries. Ninety percent of freshmen return for their sophomore year, a national high.
