GROVE CITY, Pa. - Grove City College and the Central Blood Bank will co-sponsor a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 1 in the IM Room of the Physical Learning Center on the Grove City College campus. The event is open to the public and donors from the community as well as students and staff are encouraged to give.
The Central Blood Bank is in dire need of blood donations, particularly the O+ blood type. Due to regulations, donors must show one of the following forms of identification: a valid driver’s license, Central Blood Bank donor card, passport, military ID, Social Security card. An official employee badge with photo and full name as well as a birth certificate accompanied by a picture ID that includes the donor’s full name are also acceptable forms of identification. Official student ID cards with photos are also acceptable. Those without one of these forms of identification will not be permitted to donate.
Donors must be at least 18 years old, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health the day of the drive. It is also suggested that donors eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating. Donors may give every 56 days.
Some individuals may not be permitted to give blood if they are on certain medications or have traveled out of the country in recent months. Donors can still register with the Central Blood Bank, however, for future donations. By registering, individuals will qualify for a drawing held the day of the drive. Refreshments will be supplied.
