December 31, 1969

English faculty member
killed in car accident

Grove City College mourned the second death during the week of May 8 with the sudden passing of faculty member Dr. Michael Price. The 41-year-old associate professor of English was killed in a car crash in Grove City early on the evening of May 11, 2006.

Friends and family gathered May 15 at East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City for calling hours. A memorial service was held on May 16, at East Main. The family asked that no flowers be sent and any donations be directed to National City Bank for deposit into an account for Drew Price.

Price (view photo) joined the faculty in 1998 from Purdue University. Born on Feb. 16, 1965, he was raised in Damascus, Md., and Knoxville, Tenn., and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Tennessee Technological University. In 1996, he earned his Ph.D. in English from Purdue, where he specialized in English Renaissance literature. There, he also worked as a member of the staff of the Office of Writing Review, eventually serving as interim director. Prior, he also taught literature and composition at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, Calif.

On the Grove City College campus, he was the adviser to the speech and debate team and led the team in recent years to national tournaments where students excelled. He was a member of Pi Kappa Delta, the national forensics honorary. He was the Director of Intercollegiate Forensics and served as coach, mentor and teacher to hundreds of speech and debate competitors. Dr. Steven Jones is the co-adviser to the group.

This semester, Price taught forensics, effective writing, advanced writing and humanities civilization/literature. He had published several scholarly articles on Shakespeare, Milton and John Donne and his writings won numerous awards.

He and his wife, Tambi, a Tennessee native, have one son, Andrew.
