The Department's mission is to provide professional education in business administration and international management, within a framework of Christian principles.

The Department is dedicated to educating leaders who are well-equipped with the technical and theoretical knowledge of their discipline, who grasp the importance of Christian ethical absolutes to business decisions and the formation of public policy, who understand the essential components of Western Civilization including economic liberty, religious freedom, limited constitutional government, and who appreciate the increasing interrelatedness between United States business and economic activity and world markets and cultures.

The faculty members of the Department of Business seek to promote the following goals:

1. To aid the student in the development of a worldview in which the student sees participation in commercial relationships, domestic and international, as a Christian calling, and an opportunity for Christian witness and expression.

2. To produce business leaders of the highest quality, who are equipped with the technical and theoretical knowledge of their business discipline, who possess well-developed problem-solving skills, who grasp the importance of applying Christ’s teachings to business decisions and who are equipped to participate in the formation of public policy that promotes liberty.

3. To fully support the opportunity that GCC students have to simultaneously obtain a quality liberal arts education in the Western tradition and a professional business education. Courses in the department emphasize three themes:

• International business trends and applications
• Computer and quantitative analytical approaches
• Writing and speaking skills

Our students graduate with the essential tools necessary to succeed in today’s increasingly competitive business environment.

CURRICULA

Business Management

A major in business management prepares graduates for many varied positions in business and industry. This major features a core curriculum of essential business topics in addition to advanced courses in organizational behavior,  leadership, human resources, and organizational communications and consulting. Students also have the opportunity for an upper-level concentration in another business topic, such as marketing, finance, and operations management. The business management curriculum features extensive use of case studies, problem-solving exercises, field experiences, and internships.

Finance

If you have good analytical skills and are interested in investments, banking, or corporate finance, you should consider majoring in finance. Our finance students receive comprehensive training in business along with specialized instruction in entrepreneurial finance, investment analysis and management, and corporate finance. Students learn practical applications from field experiences and Harvard-style case studies.

International Business

The International Business major includes three challenging components.  First, students choose either a Marketing, Management or Finance focus for their program, completing the same upper-level coursework as majors in one of those programs.  Second, the International Business students complete a series of four international business courses including International Marketing and International Business Transactions.  Finally, students round out their International Business major with not only advanced-level courses in at least one modern language, but also studies in intercultural communications, world history and international relations.

Marketing Management

Our marketing major prepares students for a marketing role in both consumer and industrial settings. In addition to the business core, a semester each of Introduction to Manufacturing, Marketing Research, Strategic Marketing, Business Policy, Consumer Behavior and Sales Management, plus three upper-level business or accounting courses are required.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL MAJORS

The two majors listed below are interdepartmental majors which combine business with a technical field.

Industrial Management
With this major, GCC offers the student the opportunity to acquire a theoretical understanding of a unique blend of technical and administrative skills necessary to become a successful manager. This Bachelor of Science program consists of a select combination of business, natural science and engineering courses designed to produce students who can manage in markets where products and their delivery must be world-class.

Computer Information Systems Management
Courses in computer systems and business combine to stress the business applications and management of computer databases and information systems. This is also a Bachelor of Science program.
