GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dr. Edwin Arnold, chair of the Department of Music and Fine Arts, director of the Pew Fine Arts Center and professor of music at Grove City College, has been invited to conduct two bands: the U.S. Army Field Band on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Butler High School in Butler, Pa., and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Symphonic Concert Band on Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Lancaster, Pa.
Arnold will conduct the U.S. Army Field Band, one of the top instrumental ensembles in the nation, which features top musicians from the military, as part of their fall concert tour. The U.S. Army Field Band is led by Col. Timothy Holtan, former director of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Holtan and Arnold have worked together previously as guest conductors, clinicians and in special programs throughout the United States.
Conducting the PMEA All-State Symphonic Concert Band at the group’s annual spring convention, Arnold will prepare for three days with the band prior to the performance. The ensemble is made up of the top 200 student band musicians in Pennsylvania.
Arnold is a long-time member of PMEA and has had several different ensembles from Grove City College attend the conference to perform in front of nearly 4,000 attendees. PMEA’s membership is comprised of elementary through college music teachers, private studio teachers, professional musicians, music businesses and supporters across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
